1960s Donald Brooks lace & silk cord babydoll dress

$2,500.00

This breathtaking late 1960s dress by Donald Brooks showcases the designer’s couture level workmanship. The bodice is lined with sheer nude fabric and silk, the skirt has a full matte silk satin underskirt beneath a netted lace overlay. The sleeves are unlined and close with hand covered silk buttons and loops. It fastens at the back with a back zipper, with the outer lace snapping over the closure. The lace is composed of multiple net grounds overlaid with hand stitched silk cordwork, creating incredible depth, dimension and texture throughout. Finished entirely by hand, this level of workmanship would be extremely costly to reproduce today. The black color emphasizes the graphic quality of the lace pattern. Condition is excellent overall, with only very minor signs of age consistent with age. This dress is best suited for an extra small to small.
