This is a magnificent 1960s Hattie Carnegie cocktail ensemble. This ensemble consists of a sleeveless sheath dress and matching cropped bolero jacket, both made from a sculptural navy blue ribbon fabric with dimensional rosette detailing. It has a sheen to it. The dress features a structured bodice with a wide scoop neckline, a fully lined skirt, and a scalloped hem. The coordinating open front jacket has three quarter length sleeves, is hand-lined in silk (as well as the bodice) and closes with large hidden snap closures. This is set is in excellent condition, some of the ribbons have lifted and the hidden snaps have some wear. This piece was extremely well taken care of.
Back story on this piece, this is the information that was provided to me about its history.
They belonged to my great aunt, she never had children, so many of her beautiful belongings were passed down to my mother and her sisters.
She lived a very interesting and elegant life. She had wonderful taste and a true appreciation for quality, fashion, and craftsmanship. She was fortunate to be able to collect beautiful clothing and fine things throughout her life, and she took great care of them.
These dresses are special because they are a little piece of her story and the era she lived in. She loved dressing beautifully, and I’m happy they are going to someone who appreciates the history and beauty behind them.
