This is a breathtaking, statuesque late 1950s couture level ensemble by Michael Novarese. This dramatic two piece ensemble features a strapless column gown paired with a luxurious matching opera coat, both designed in a shimmering black silk lamé brocade adorned with metallic gold roses and silver butterflies. The gown is sleek and sculpted, cinched at the waist and has a bow at the front, it has internal boning on the sides of the bodice. The coat is voluminous and architectural, with a wide portrait collar that frames the shoulders and cascades into a sweeping full length silhouette. It is lined in black satin and impeccably made. This set is in excellent condition and one of the best examples I’ve seen of his work.
