We might call this style dress a wrap dress, but in 1942 this style dress was called a popover. The popover design was originally created in 1942 by Claire McCardell. It was created as a response to a Harper's Bazaar challenge to create something fashionable someone could wear to clean the house and then wear to a cocktail party! Fast forward to the 1970s, and it was popularized again by Diane Von Furstenberg. Just about every decade after the 1940s has had some version of the popover, regardless of whether the name has changed.
This matching set dates to the 1950s. It is made in the USA from 100% cotton. It comes with its original matching oven mitt. The dress has an inner tie and an outer tie. You can adjust the waistline to your liking. The skirt of the dress has one pocket. This fantastic set is in excellent condition. It does not have its original hang tags, but it feels and looks like it is deadstock. Marked a vintage size 12 which has no relevance to modern sizing. Necklace is not included.
